Dr Richard Yin is the WA chair of Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA). The medical advocacy group understands human health to be intimately linked to a healthy environment and is the only medical organisation in Australia solely focused on promoting good health through care of the environment. Human-induced climate change is now widely regarded as the most serious, and growing, worldwide threat to human health and survival. The organisations work is diverse and includes education of the medical community, politicians, the media and the wider community; holding briefings with leading policy makers; presenting information at parliamentary inquiries; speaking at community forums; providing expert opinion to journalists; publishing peer reviewed studies and writing position papers. Representing DEA, Dr Yin was instrumental in the creation of the Renew WA alliance calling for action in WA on support for renewable energy and action on climate change.
